My Camino

Cee

Through the night, the wind howled and rain pounded. We recalled big trees crashed over on the Camino into Padrón. We’d been fortunate someone cleared the trail before we arrived. What kind of conditions could we expect after three days of rain and high winds?

In the morning, we conferred with other trekkers. They also felt uneasy about the plausibility of an impassible trail. Someone expressed concern for additional strain on local emergency response resources. Meanwhile, the hotel lost power briefly, twice. The wisdom of the group was Táxi!

Sandy, from Australia, and Eamon, from Ireland, hopped in on our ride into Cee. We felt disappointed — but no regrets. Considering all of the hurricane trauma in the States of late, and the big beast bearing down on Florida, we’ve no reason to complain.

We didn’t find much to do or see in Cee. There’s a nice beach; it was empty, of course. A lovely harbor, some distance away. We popped in for pastries, did some window shopping, and found a cafe.

The kitchen was closed but they were serving pinchons — single portion snacks. If you’ve seen the movie, The Way, you’ll recall the scene with Tom and Joost about tapas versus pinchons?

I had a Spanish omelette — usually egg and potato, served room temp. This had some ham and cheese, oddly, also mayo; it was nice. The Hubs had a single chicken wing served with three French fries!

The hotel allowed us to check in hours early whereupon I found a nap irresistible! Although we feel strong, we are also feeling tired. We had time to do laundry — a nice perk of not trekking. The clean clothing sitch was a bit dire with a weekend in Madrid yet ahead.

Now late afternoon, the weather is clearing in a most encouraging way. Yay! Tomorrow, we press on for the prize — Finisterre!

Praying for friends and family in Milton’s path; stay safe, dear ones.

Hold hope. Keep faith. Walk your walk.

~ Sincerely, Sondra

  2. Thank you! We were praying the weather would clear, too. It looked unlikely until the very last moment. What a great day we had for the final trek to Finisterre! More soon … XO
