There’s a Cat showing up — center, left or right
In group photos, she’s never far out of sight.
Our Camino mascot; the sticking-post
She’s heard the very worst and the most
She carried a safety pin in her tail
If, on occasion, Greg started to wail
He threatened to use it, when the going got rough
Perhaps he thought it’d make him feel tough
To poke that ol’ Cat; give it to her good
If the worst case scenario flowed like a flood
And flood she did, poor li’l thing —
One day Greggo had to give her a wring!
We trekked many miles, uphill and down
All kinds of terrain; switchbacking small towns
Through wind and rain; in sunshine and pain
We just kept on going, again and again
We were waylaid and hungry, hangry and mad
We were silly and sappy, soppy and sad
We were beyond grateful; happy and glad
A journey so precious, it’s nothing to brag
But even when swollen and achingly sore
We just kept on trekking and asking for more
The pin never moved from her tail — don’t you know?
Good ol’ Greg had no heart to give it a go!
Perhaps, once he started, it could only get worse?
This wasn’t so bad, trekking theme songs by verse
We rallied, we rested, we pressed on and on
Until we found solace in Santiago town
That Cat was in it, through thick and thin
Ne’er a complaint from that whiskered chin
Now home in New England where that Cat belongs
Me’w-mewing in tune to sweet Camino songs
The joy of this journey has only begun
Press on, Pilgrims, ‘til day is done.
Bom Caminho! Buen Camino!
Thanks for the memories ;=)
