We spent a day on Prince Edward Island once, in port. We rented a car and drove to Cavendish. Anyone who knows PEI knows “Anne with an e” was here. Plus, potatoes.
Lots and lots of potatoes in white or purple flower right now, dontcha’ know! But PEI is so much more.

We loved our visit to Green Gables that day. Quiet woodland and meadow trails actually inspired the Hubs to develop our home property. We found PEI people inviting, landscape picturesque, driving easy, and red earth striking. As those red cliffs slid past our balcony on sailing out of port, the seed of a dream for this trip began to germinate.
PEI has miles and miles of walking trails; that was the goal our first full day on return. Trekking truly is my happy place. It felt so good to be back in that rhythm, poles click-clacking, birds singing, sea-breeze sifting the chaff from my cluttered mind.
We started out on the Dunelands trail, continuing on to Ocean View, with a short diversion for the Cavendish Beach boardwalk before returning.
If you’ve read Lucy Maud Montgomery’s timeless novel, you’re familiar with Anne’s Lake of Shining Waters. What fun to trek across, sunlight glimmering off the pond. Green Gables is visible in the distance, or once was; with the foliage, I couldn’t be sure.

The beach was beginning to get busy as we left, glad for a glimpse but not ready to swim. Grateful for some nice birding on the trek out, especially the cedar waxwings — a tree full of fledglings!
Much later, after a delectable lunch at Lone Oak Beer Garden, amazing Moos Ice Cream, and a smidge of retail therapy at Avonlea Village, we met up with our friends. They drove us “up west”, down a red dirt country road, to a funky new brewery called Moth Lane. Tasty brews and a bite of dinner, too. Perfect bookend on an adventuresome day. No problem getting a good nights’ sleep!
Our second full day was my birthday. Initially we’d planned a long seaside trek. Our friends had other ideas. We’ve learned to trust the locals!

It was a great fun, traipsing hither and yon. We stopped for sourdough bread at a farm stand. Next, a tour of their cottage property. So sweet. Then we were off to explore Victoria-by-the-Sea.
This artsy town is literally home to handcrafts, (some shops are in residences), small restaurants and a friendly vibe. Exactly my kind of place; I loved every minute. I’m bringing home birthday gifts with super sweet memories.

We had just enough time to hit the Summerside boardwalk, winding along by the sea and through lightly wooded terrain. Adean and I were long overdue for that walk-and-talk. To think my friend gets to do this every day!
The Hubs and I closed out my birthday with live music and local brews — Moth Lane’s Red Dirt Road is not to miss! Yes, more seafood, too. Woo-hoo! Couldn’t ask for a better birthday or more lovely people with which to share it, eh?
We’ve one more day in Anne’s Land and more ‘splorin’ to do. I’ll be back with the PEI wrap, same bat-time, same bat-channel. Thanks for joining the journey!
