Pushing thru to PEI

Our second day on the road turned out to be just as long as the first. I’m still not sure how that happened. Perhaps because we started by backtracking a bit.

We’d passed a fromagerie a few miles north of Dégelis. Yes, of course artisanal cheese stores are a thing in Quebec. Duh. We’d unknowingly sailed past several others. Now on the brink of New Brunswick border, we’d soon run out of options.

So much more than a cheese store! FROMAGERIE LE DÉTOUR was a feast for eyes as well as tummy!

Some of the cheese I hoped to try was too young to eat. Le Clandestin and Magie de Madawaska, she said, must cure for at least two more weeks. Well, that doesn’t work great on the road. Instead, I chose Le Dame de Lac and Imposteur. If only they sold insulated bags, which we’d failed to pack, and we’d be packing a lot more cheese home!

This was another easy drive; traffic was light. Lots of moose signage and fencing, but nary a moose in sight. We won’t give up hope!

I knew there was lobster waiting for me in PEI. Beautiful scenery — just wait for those photos. But the biggest reward for pushing through was to finally hug my Revelation Wellness sister, Adean. Four years of getting to know one another from a distance — so much joy in this meet up!

Adean had asked if we’d like to attend the Highland Storm performance in Summerside. Boy, did we ever! This show was unlike any other we’ve seen, singing, stepping, piping and drumming the story of the first PEI highlanders. Simply delightful, along with the pleasure of her and her family’s company.

We were so eager to explore more of PEI but first, we needed some sleep. We went to bed with the comfort of knowing our personal, local guides were ready to advise, and maybe even join us! Tomorrow I’ll tell you how we’ve adventured, plus one of my sweetest birthdays. PEI is a pleasure, through and through.

Thanks for joining the journey. :=)

~ Sincerely, Sondra
